Large breasts are heavy, and can affect posture and cause back and neck pain. They may also be responsible for limiting sporting and recreational activities undertaken and clothing choices.
A breast reduction provides an opportunity for increased comfort and enhanced appearance.

It is usually possible to reduce the breast size up to the equivalent of two or three bra cup sizes although the amount required will be different for each individual.
The operation involves the removal of fat and breast tissue using a combination of liposuction and direct excision. The nipple is left in continuity with the underlying breast while a new higher position for the nipple is created in the skin envelope.
There are a number of different patterns or techniques that may be used for the breast reduction operation. Dr. McManamny has spent many years refining a procedure referred to as 'vertical breast reduction' which seeks to minimize scarring to the breast.
The vertical reduction procedure eliminates the horizontal scar beneath the breast, leaving just a scar around the areola and a vertical scar to the skin fold beneath the breast. With time, both fade to become barely noticeable in most women, improving the cosmetic outcome and allowing greater choice in clothing.
The operation may be performed as a day case procedure or, if you prefer, an overnight stay in hospital can be arranged. Post-operative recovery is uncomfortable but not painful and this aspect often influences the decision regarding an overnight stay.
A support bra should be worn day and night for the first six weeks and any activities involving exertion should be avoided. A return to driving and other quiet activities is usually possible after a week and any discomfort can usually be managed with pain-reducing medication.
