Neck Lift

Over time, the elasticity of the neck and facial tissues depletes and the platysma muscle of the neck weakens. When these structures begin to sag, it can lead to a flabby appearance known as a turkey neck. The rate of tissue laxity development is dependent on genetics, gravity, and environmental factors.

*Neck lift surgery tightens drooping skin and muscles of the neck to restore a smooth, youthful neck contour.

Benefits of a Neck Lift

Smooths Vertical Banding

A thick, drooping platysma muscle can cause vertical banding to develop on the front of the neck. These bands can significantly age your appearance, and some patients find them unsightly. Neck lift surgery uses an incision behind the earlobe to gain access to the platysma muscle. The muscle is then pulled tight and held in place with sutures. Dr McManamny’s suturing technique provides long-term support to the platysma muscle for continuously beautiful results.

Addressing Your Concerns

Recovery

Dr McManamny recommends that all of his facial rejuvenation patients stay in hospital overnight for monitoring and for the administration of pain medication. You will experience some bruising and swelling that can be soothed using ice packs. You will be required to rest with your head elevated for one week following your surgery to minimise swelling.

Most patients return to work within two weeks of their surgery. You will be required to limit your physical activities for several weeks, but most patients can resume their regular routine after four weeks. Most major swelling subsides after six weeks, at which time your final results will become visible.

Scars

Dr McManamny uses fine incisions placed discreetly behind the earlobes and precise suturing techniques to minimise scar development. However, scar development depends on the patient’s individual healing process. The extent of your incisions can also affect scar development. However, any scarring that does develop is likely to fade over time.

Cost

The cost of neck lift surgery is highly variable and will differ between patients. Hospital fees, anaesthetic fees, and the extent of correction will all affect the ultimate cost of your procedure. The exact cost of your procedure will be determined after a detailed consultation.

Pain

Neck lift surgery is performed with the patient under general anaesthetic, which means that patients feel zero pain during their procedure. The first few days may be accompanied by some discomfort. All associated pain can be controlled using prescribed oral medication.

Frequently Asked Questions About Neck Lift

Who is the ideal neck lift candidate?

Ideal neck lift candidates are in good general health and have realistic expectations. Patients considering neck lift surgery usually have visible signs of ageing in the neck area, including tissue sagging, vertical banding, and wrinkles.

How I old should I be before undergoing a neck lift procedure?

Typically, patients begin to see signs of ageing in the neck around 40 to 45 years of age. However, ageing and tissue sagging occurs at different rates for everyone. Therefore, you don’t have to be a certain age to consider facial rejuvenation.

How long will my results last?

Neck lift surgery is designed to provide a long-lasting improvement in your neck appearance. Most patients receive results that last them for many years. However, habits such as smoking and exposing the skin to direct sunlight can shorten the life of your neck lift results.

How can I prolong the life of my neck lift results?

Many patients utilise non-surgical laser treatments following their neck lift to extend the life of their procedure. Living a healthy lifestyle will also help maintain your results.
